Biden halts border wall, promises $4 billion to Central America to “reduce immigration”

Recently, a large number of refugees from Honduras are running to the U.S.-Mexico border area to try to enter the United States illegally. Joe Biden spoke by phone with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Friday (22), promising $4 billion to Central America to reduce illegal immigration.

The Daily Mail reported on Friday that Biden spoke with Lopez on the phone and the two discussed the current influx of migrants and the need to “address the root causes of the migration problem,” according to the Daily Mail.

Lopez told the media Saturday that Biden told him during the call that the U.S. would contribute $4 billion to help Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala develop their economies in hopes of reducing the root causes of illegal immigration to the United States.

In fact, immediately after Biden entered the White House on Jan. 20, he issued an executive order ending the Trump (Trump) administration’s Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP) and halting border wall construction. And in recent days, thousands of Honduran migrants are marching toward the U.S.-Mexico border.

On January 17, a large number of Honduran migrants arrived in Vado Hondo, Guatemala, and attempted to force their way across Guatemala and into the United States via the U.S.-Mexico border. The illegal immigrants confronted Guatemalan military personnel on guard in Vado Hondo, and at one point clashed.

The Mexican government has also recently taken some action to stop the caravan of Central American migrants from crossing into Mexico.

The outside world believes that the current large-scale migrant crisis facing the United States is a direct result of Biden’s “open border strategy” after taking office. Therefore, when the media reported the news of Biden’s plan to reduce immigration by funding $4 billion to Central America, many American netizens posted on online social media platforms. Some commented, “Oh, so Biden will pay for this alone.” Some commented, “We the American people ourselves have so many people out of work and struggling with the poverty line …… these Democrats never know how to care about the people at Home.” Other netizens complained that “it would be better to take this money to build a border wall.”
