In Iceland, 4,800 people have been given “vaccine passports” issued to those who have been vaccinated. These people have already had two doses of the vaccine. But because it is not yet internationally recognized, it currently remains valid only in theory. The purpose is to facilitate the movement of people between countries and to allow individuals to present proof of vaccination during border controls and thus be exempt from border restriction measures according to the rules of the country concerned,” the health department said in a statement on the 26th.
Iceland is not an EU idiomatic country, but is a member of the Schengen area. Greece, Spain, Portugal and other countries hope to promote tourism and economic recovery by issuing “vaccine passports” to vaccinated people.
The World Health Organization is opposed. At this stage, we still don’t know whether vaccinated people are retransmitting to others,” said Michael Ryan, WHO’s director of health emergencies.
French officials are cautious about issuing “vaccine passports”. French President Macron has said, “We should be very careful about this.”
France’s European Affairs Minister Bonnard (Clément Beaune) recently said: It is too early to talk about issuing official documents to those people; to prove whether they have the right to travel in Europe, I’m afraid it is too early. French Health Minister Wieland also said: we are still in the vaccination phase, talking about “vaccine passport”, of course, is not appropriate.
The German Foreign Ministry’s Minister of State for European Affairs, Michael Roth, raised doubts. He said it is crucial to be sure that people who have been vaccinated will not transmit the new coronavirus to others. This is because there is no definitive data from global health authorities to prove that vaccinated people will not spread the virus to others beyond ensuring that they are no longer infected.
In addition to medical concerns, experts are concerned that a “vaccine passport” program could violate privacy and lead to discrimination or fraud.
