Zheng Shuang explodes surrogacy insider: more than 400 underground agencies Officials turn a blind eye

In recent months, Surrogacy-related topics have been on the hot seat several times, first with “Baby” (right), directed by Chen Kaige, which ripped apart the ethical taboos and legal issues behind surrogacy; and then with Zheng Shuang (left), who broke the story of overseas surrogacy and childbirth. The surrogacy controversy triggered by Chinese actress Zheng Shuang continues to ferment. Recently the media has revealed one after another the existence of a black market surrogacy industry chain in China, and exposed the details one by one.

Surrogacy agencies: unlimited ovulation, egg retrieval and transplantation within two years of luxury payment

Chinese law clearly prohibits medical institutions and medical personnel from implementing any form of surrogacy technology, but according to Xinhua News Agency, the scale of China’s “black market for surrogacy” has been expanding in recent years, showing a deformed prosperity, and many obstetrics and gynecology hospitals have “surrogacy”, “egg sale”, and “transplantation” on their toilet doors. “If you type in the keyword “egg donation” on the Internet, you will see numerous advertisements for the sale of eggs, and some websites even advertise “love egg donation”. Some websites even sell eggs illegally under the guise of “love egg donation”.

Surrogacy is the act of a woman accepting a commission from another person to give birth to a child for the commissioning party by artificial means, commonly known as “having a baby on loan”.

It is reported that surrogacy services in China can be divided into three types: first, sperm and eggs are provided by the demand side, and embryos are transferred after in vitro fertilization, and the womb of the surrogate mother is borrowed for conception; second, only sperm comes from the demand side, and eggs are provided by the egg donor and conceived by the surrogate mother; third, only eggs are provided by the demand side, and in vitro fertilization is carried out with the sperm of a third party, and conceived by the surrogate mother.

Some surrogacy agencies also offer a variety of so-called medical “packages” based on demand and at an explicit price.

According to Hong Kong‘s Apple, a journalist found “Sagin Medical” on the Internet, which provides “third-party assisted reproduction services”, and contacted the agency about IVF through WeChat as a client. The other party referred the reporter to a consultant of “a-RFG Royal Hospital” for follow-up. The reporter contacted the consultant by WeChat, and the other party sent back the price list, which shows that RFG is known as “Royal Reproductive Genetics Hospital” in Chinese, located in Thailand and Cambodia. The hospital’s fees are divided into two parts: “medical packages” and “special needs services” (i.e. surrogacy).

The most expensive package includes unlimited ovulation, egg retrieval, and transplantation for two years, with a full refund for unsuccessful attempts. As for surrogacy, the fee for an overseas pregnant mother is 400,000 yuan, while the fee for a Chinese domestic pregnant mother is 450,000 yuan. If you want a “risk and birth package”, you need to add 100,000 yuan to the original; in addition, you can also “customize the baby”, that is, choose the sex of the baby, as well as through genetic screening to avoid genetic diseases. According to the consultant, the surrogate mothers provided by the hospital are all women in their 30s who have delivered one child in normal labor.

When the reporter indicated that she wanted to find a surrogate in China, the other party replied, “Recently, there have been many news reports that domestic surrogacy is a gray area and cannot be done,” but she also stressed, “This is a sensitive period, if you want to do it in our foreign hospitals, you can do it at any Time, if it is domestic, there is currently no way to communicate with The other side said that they could find a surrogate in China after the yellow New Year after repeated questioning.

The black market for surrogacy has been repeatedly banned due to the dual stimulation of demand and supply

According to the mainland media “Red Network”, surrogate clients actually spend from several hundred thousand yuan to millions of yuan, but the money that really reaches the surrogate mother is only about 100,000 or 200,000 yuan. The surrogacy agent will earn a good profit from it.

“To do a single business, the profit is between 30% and 60%.” A person who has worked in a surrogacy agency also revealed that if you start with a minimum of 650,000 yuan and a profit of 30 percent for a single business, a surrogacy agency will make a profit of at least 10 million yuan in the case of carrying out 1,000 surrogacy businesses.

It is also because of the market and huge profits hidden in surrogacy that various illegal surrogacy agencies have emerged in China.

More than 400 underground surrogacy agencies are officially ignored

According to statistics, the percentage of couples with fertility disorders in China is 10% to 15%, of which about 20% require artificial reproductive assisted technology to get pregnant.

According to incomplete statistics from the Legal Daily, there are more than 400 surrogacy agencies in China, mostly in Guangdong, Beijing, Yunnan and Sichuan, and most of them are “underground transactions”, resulting in confusing surrogacy market fees.

In recent years, there have been many “bizarre stories” about surrogacy, each of which has revealed real problems, but the authorities have turned a blind eye to them.

For example, after spending more than 700,000 yuan to find a surrogate to give birth to a child, the couple took the surrogacy agency to court and demanded a full refund, but the surrogacy agency countersued and demanded a final payment of 180,000 yuan; a man looking for a surrogate waited for years without seeing the child and could not get his money back, so he had to sue the surrogacy agency to return the money; a woman who received 11 million yuan for a rich surrogate was ordered to return the money, etc.

In addition, illegal and criminal acts of fraud arising from surrogacy contracts; custody disputes, inheritance disputes, and guardianship disputes arising from surrogacy, etc., all occur one by one in real Life.
