According to an AFP report today, Huawei’s French base station equipment factory, sited in the Brumath business district of Alsace Brumath in Strasbourg, eastern France. Haguenau, where the district is located, is only 20 kilometers away from Strasbourg. Huawei announced its plans to build the plant earlier on Dec. 17 last year. Huawei vice president and Huawei board member Chen Lifang translates as Katrina Chen, calling it a historic day for Huawei.
Huawei is investing 200 million euros in the plant, which is planned to employ 300 to 500 workers in the future. The factory mainly produces equipment for wireless communications, especially for 5G base stations in Europe. After the commissioning of the plant to produce 1 billion euros per year equipment products.
According to local officials, Huawei chose the Strasbourg region to build the factory, is the result of cooperation between multiple parties, and praised the important investment in the local area. A Huawei announcement said it plans to make the plant an eco-friendly one, in particular by using ecological building materials and processes to significantly limit the plant’s energy impact.
Huawei is considered the most influential of the world’s three largest 5G equipment suppliers, according to AFP. Huawei has been in France since 2003 and recently announced increased investment in the country. In a sign of its desire to invest in long-term development in France, Huawei has announced that it will build a research center in the Paris region.
Currently, Huawei employs nearly 1,000 people in France and has 23 R&D centers in Europe.
