SolarWinds hired the former Communist Party-affiliated law firm of He Jinli’s husband, Douglas Emhoff, to act as a lobbyist, according to National Pulse.
On Monday, National Pulse reported that SolarWinds, a software vendor used by the U.S. government that was recently the target of a massive cyberattack, hired the former law firm of Vice President Kamala Harris’s husband as its lobbyist.
Douglas Emhoff was previously a partner in the intellectual property and technology practice of DLA Piper and its media, sports and entertainment group, according to the report. However, Emhoff left the firm on Nov. 10 in an effort to “work with the Biden-Henry transition team to develop a portfolio that he will focus on in support of the government’s efforts.
While Derek Yam may have claimed to be severing ties with Oval, the law firm continues its government-focused lobbying and legal practice.
On Dec. 16, 2020, Sunwind hired the Washington, D.C., office of O’Hara & Associates as its lobbyist.
On Jan. 21 – a day after the inauguration of Biden and Hejinli – the firm reported its earnings at $130,000 and continued to fulfill its contract.
Initial documents indicate that the firm was tasked with lobbying the U.S. House and Senate on “providing information to Congress regarding the Sunburst attack on Solar Wind.
The client’s lobbyists include former Republican Congressman Charlie Dent, who supported Biden in the 2020 election, and Tony Samp, a former senior policy adviser to Senator Martin Heinrich, a potential member of the Biden Administration.
According to CNN, the unearthed document comes after “mounting pressure” on the Biden administration to address the Sunwind breach.
Joe Biden’s administration is under increasing pressure to respond to one of the worst data breaches in the history of the U.S. government.
