The Breitbart News reports that Gabby Giffords (D-Mich.) says her goal for 2021 is to push for gun control through a “strong platform” in Hollywood.
Former congresswoman Gabby Giffords told Variety magazine that one of her goals for 2021 is to see Hollywood writers and producers use their media platforms to push for gun control, according to the report.
Variety reports that “one of Giffords’ priorities for 2021 is to build relationships with Hollywood writers, producers, celebrities and policymakers who can use their powerful platforms to speak out against gun violence, call for common-sense laws and support local communities’ efforts to raise awareness about gun safety.”
The magazine noted that Giffords “has begun to engage the entertainment community and hopes to devise more strategic ways to collaborate in the new year to help shift cultural attitudes and advance policies to make it a gun-safe country.”
Asked specifically about the role she would like Hollywood to play in advancing gun control, Giffords said
“Stories are important. Elected officials use them to help get their point across, and artists have used them for centuries to inspire, to make sense of perspectives different from our own, and to bring people together. Hollywood and the arts have been extremely important in helping us through a Time of isolation, pain and division.
But she also made clear that using Hollywood “film directors” and others to promote her gun control message is only one aspect of her plan. She noted that she will “need and welcome everyone in this fight: doctors, survivors, gun owners, veterans, mothers and fathers.
