For Chinese people over 30 years old, when the name Dong Cunrui is mentioned, the image of his “hand-held dynamite pack blowing up bunkers and dying with the Kuomintang” immediately flashes in front of their eyes, because the 1956 movie of the same name has deeply influenced many mainlanders under the great propaganda of the Chinese Communist Party, and has been written into elementary school textbooks, military history and Party history. It has been written into primary school textbooks, military history and party history. However, the real Dong Cunrui was not the same as the one in the movie, and the actor who played him, Zhang Liang, was even “swept out of the house” during the Cultural Revolution.
The director admitted to concocting the screen image
The first person to question the image of Dong Cunrui was Guo Wei, the director of the movie “Dong Cunrui,” and in July 2006, Popular Film published an interview entitled “Dong Cunrui: A Classic Created by the Real” in its 8th issue, introducing the process of Guo Wei’s creation.
In the article, he wrote, “In the real world, Dong Cunrui was not named a martyr immediately after his death, but merely informed his Family that he had died. What’s more, no one saw with their own eyes the scene of him holding up the dynamite packet, which was entirely after the fact based on some traces of speculation …… at the Time Dong Cunrui did not bring the frame, the bridge belly can not put explosives. After the battle, dug out from the ground Dong Cunrui daughter-in-law for his sock sole to, so military experts believe that Dong Cunrui is most likely to hold up the dynamite packet to blow up the bridge.”
In addition, in the Communist Party of China Central Television production published in the “film legend – Dong Cunrui”, director Guo Wei said, “Zhi Zhenbiao (Shunyi) is really followed Dong Cunrui rushed up. But after Dong Cunrui rushed to the front of the bunker, he could not find him. Later how to know, to determine that he was holding the dynamite pack to blow it up? On came some military experts, because who bombed do not know ……” Indeed, no eyewitnesses, Dong Cunrui sacrificed himself to blow up the bunker story can really only be a legend.
Obviously, more than eighty years old Guo Wei in this matter no motive to lie, there is no need for their own participation in shaping the “hero” body to throw dirty water, its purpose is probably to tell the world the truth.
After Guo Wei’s remarks were made public, it caused widespread discussion and questioning of Dong Cunrui, while Dong’s family, former troops, and comrades joined forces to take Popular Film magazine and CCTV’s “Film Legend – Dong Cunrui” program team and film director Guo Wei to court.
Shenyang Military District Political Department, Liu Guobin Colonel, Dong Cunrui’s sister Dong Cumei, Zhi Shunyi’s son Zhi Haichuan, Dong Cunrui’s former troops as representatives, that “Dong Cunrui hands up dynamite packets to blow bunkers is true,” but their testimony is contradictory in many places, there are obvious loopholes.
For example, that witnessed Dong Cunrui hand-held dynamite packet bomb bunker “Shunyi,” said in an interview: “in this case the dynamite packet up, the top of the explosives, I saw the explosives on, smoke came out I was anxious, I got up and shouted, I said you put down, you put down, he looked at me to go, he said down, you get down … … … Finally he shouted, for the sake of the new China rush ah.” But in fact, the phrase “for the sake of a new China” was invented in the movie, because even the leaders of the Chinese Communist Party did not know when they would be able to establish a political regime, let alone a small soldier.
In addition, Zhao Huan, the screenwriter of “Dong Cunrui”, also proved that he created the phrase. Either he was so infected by the movie that he couldn’t even tell the difference between truth and fiction, or he intentionally faked it for some purpose. In this case, how much credibility is there in what he said?
There are other people whose recollections are also contradictory, so I won’t list them all here. The most suspicious point is that, after 1949, the only person who really came forward to explain Dong Cunrui bomb bunker is Zhi Shunyi, if many people saw Dong Cunrui bomb bunker, so many years they will become preachers of Dong Cunrui’s deeds. But where are these people?
Although the lawsuit ended in a settlement between the two sides, but whether Dong Cunrui died as the Chinese Communist Party propaganda, no one may know, however, its death for the scourge of the Chinese Communist Party is an indisputable fact.
The movie “Dong Cunrui” starred in an anti-rightist Cultural Revolution encounter
The actor who played Dong Cunrui in the movie “Dong Cunrui” was named Zhang Liang. In his 70s, he wrote a memoir titled “Love Never Grows Old”, recalling the many experiences of his Life.
Born in Liaoning in 1933, Zhang Liang was originally named Zhang Qingzhu, but later changed his name to a more pronounced name in order to join the Chinese Communist Army. 15 years old, he first joined the propaganda team of the 208th Northeast Division of the Chinese Communist Party. After that, he participated in the Liaoshen Campaign and the Korean War with the propaganda team, and joined the CCP during this period.
In 1952, Zhang was transferred to the North China Military Region’s Cultural and Technical Troupe and was assigned to the drama team as an actor, and in 1955, when the film “Dong Cunrui” was shot in Changping, director Guo Wei was introduced to Zhang Liang, who was chosen because he had a similar experience to Dong Cunrui: he joined the army at the age of 15 and spent many years in the army. During his shooting period, the Chinese Communist Party’s military cultural and industrial troupe underwent a major restructuring, and the North China Military District Cultural and Industrial Troupe merged with the Northwest China and Shenyang Military District Cultural and Industrial Troupe to form the “Anti-War Drama Troupe”.
After its release, Dong Cunrui became a classic Communist propaganda “hero” and both the film and Zhang Liang won awards. Soon after, Zhang Liang met Wang Jingzhu, a Suzhou woman who would become his wife.
During Mao’s “anti-rightist” campaign in 1957, Guo Wei and other well-known directors were branded as “big rightists” in the film industry, which surprised and worried Zhang Liang. At the “heart-to-heart” meeting instructed by Mao, Zhang Liang, who was politically naive, was the first one to speak, expressing his incomprehension of Guo Wei’s being branded as a “rightist”. He was then criticized for “losing his position”.
Soon, the theater troupe posted large posters that read “Zhang Liang has jumped out” and “Zhang Liang is reversing the case for the big rightists”. Zhang Liang was very angry and took a tit-for-tat attitude. Later, under the kind advice of director Sun Min, who had experienced the Yan’an Rectification Movement, he was forced to admit his “mistake” and was only temporarily suspended for introspection instead of being branded as a “rightist”.
At the same time, the People’s Daily published an article criticizing Zhang Liang by name, and he was eventually punished by detention in the Party and administrative demotion of one grade for his “position error”, and was sent down to the army for “reform”. A year later, due to his “good performance”, Zhang Liang was seconded to the 81st Film Factory to make movies, and started his new career as a film-maker, during which he got married in 1961.
After the outbreak of the Cultural Revolution, many people were beaten down and criticized in the 81st Film Factory. Zhang Liang was also seized, locked up in a cattle shed and criticized for his “problems” during the anti-rightist period in 1967. The two of them worked together during the day, digging dung, digging coal, sweeping the streets, studying and receiving criticism …… leaving their two young children at Home.
After some time in this way, Zhang Liang and his wife were released to their home, but were ordered to move to a dilapidated house where chickens and ducks were kept in the workers’ housing area, which was less than 8 square meters and had brick cracks as big as a thumb. However, the persecution did not stop there, Zhang Liang was forced to eat rice made of chaff and rotten leaves to remember his suffering, forced to confess his guilt against his will, and then was sent down to Shanxi to work in the “Five Seven Cadre School” …… while his wife and children stayed in the leaking rain. The wife and children were left in a house that leaked everywhere, alone and helpless. Wang Jingzhu’s health was getting worse and worse.
In the autumn of 1969, Zhang Liang and his wife were ordered by the “Revolutionary Committee” to demobilize and return home again. After pleading and fighting to no avail, Wang Jingzhu returned to the cold Northeast Benxi County with Zhang Liang. According to the arrangement of the “Revolutionary Committee” of the 81 Factory, Zhang Liang was sent to the countryside and his household registration was changed to a rural one, but in the end, he was left in the county for many reasons and worked as a worker in a timber company.
During his time as a worker, Zhang Liang was treated well by the kind people, and his life was much better, but he still needed to “ask and report” to Mao morning and evening. Wang Jingzhu, who was from the south and had poor health, had a similarly difficult time in the cold northeast.
After Lin Biao’s death, Zhang Liang was “rehabilitated” by the 81st Factory, and then transferred to the Pearl River Film Studio as an actor, and later became a director.
Conclusion
The fact that Dong Cunrui was artificially exaggerated or even faked and the truth was restored proves once again that all the so-called “heroes” established by the Chinese Communist Party are fake, while Zhang Liang, the actor who helped the Chinese Communist Party to make the movie that deceived everyone, was killed by the Chinese Communist Party.
