Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, and First Lady Melania leave the White House in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 20, 2021.
On Sunday (Jan. 24), Fox News learned that former President Donald Trump (R-Texas) has abandoned plans to create a third political party and will instead focus on helping Republicans win back the House and Senate in the 2022 midterm elections.
Trump has left the White House since last Wednesday to return to the Sea Lake Lodge in Florida. Before and after Trump leaves office, his future plans are getting a lot of attention. There are rumors that Trump will form a third political party.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Jan. 19, citing people familiar with the matter, that Trump discussed the matter with several aides and other people close to him. The president is said to have said he wants to call the new party the “Patriot Party. It is unclear how serious Trump is about forming a new party, which would require a significant investment of Time and resources, the report said.
But Jason Miller, a senior adviser to Trump’s 2020 campaign, said Sunday that Trump “has made it clear that his goal is to provide support for the Republican Party to win the House and Senate in 2022.
Trump told Rob Crilly of the Washington Examiner on Friday (Jan. 23), “We’re going to do something, not now, but soon.” Trump did not provide more details.
Arizona’s Republican intra-party election campaign on Saturday (Jan. 23) re-elected Kelli Ward, a key Trump supporter, as chairman. The election site played the audio of Trump’s pre-recorded endorsement of Ward, which is the first time since Trump left office that he has publicly endorsed a party politician in audio form.
Miller said Sunday, “Other than that, there are no active plans in the works.”
He next turned the tables and said, but it’s entirely up to Republican senators whether things get more serious.
Before Miller’s comments, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman tweeted that former President Trump had told people he would not form a third party.
Forming a third party is usually difficult because it doesn’t have enough support to play a significant role in national elections. And efforts to create a new party could face strong opposition from Republican party officials, who could be expected to be very upset with Trump for diverting support from Republican candidates.
Miller told “Just the News AM” last Thursday that he expects former President Trump to “become a leader in the national vote and voting integrity” in the coming months.
Asked if Trump’s future plans include building a social media or cable network or taking legislative action, and whether he has any plans for future elections, Miller revealed that Trump “has a lot of goals for the next few years …… including winning back the House and Senate for Republicans in 2022 to make sure we can stop the Democrats from going crazy.
Miller said he believes Trump is close to rolling out plans, which are expected to take full shape in the coming months, that will include working closely with states and legislatures to ensure the validity and integrity of future U.S. elections and the citizen vote.
He revealed that Trump will not start acting immediately now; he will do so after a period of transition. “This is important, and we have to do it.” Miller concluded.
