Some netizens reported buying dyed oranges in Xi’an market.
A number of netizens in Xi’an, mainland China, posted that the oranges they bought were obviously dyed, which made “Xi’an market dyed oranges” a hot search on Weibo.
According to the domestic media, the market in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, has recently been reported to have unscrupulous manufacturers dyeing oranges, which was thought to be just a few examples, but more and more netizens are sharing photos of dyed oranges, causing the Food safety issue on the mainland to attract attention again. In the photos, netizens can see that after wiping the oranges with paper towels, the paper is discolored in red or unnatural yellow, and some netizens say the oranges they bought have a pungent smell of detergent, which is different from the normal scent of oranges.
According to the mainland “Food Additive Use Standard”, the use of coloring agents in fresh fruit and unprocessed fresh fruit is strictly prohibited for coloring, nor the use of industrial wax.
