On Friday (22), Biden press secretary Jen Psaki revealed that a threat assessment would be conducted on “domestic violence extremism” (DVE) related to support for the Jan. 6 Capitol protests. But she did not mention the Antifa violence that just occurred in Portland and Seattle.
At the press conference, Psaki referred to the “tragic death and destruction” that occurred at the Capitol. Referring to the Stop The Steal protests, Psaki emphasized that “the rise of violent domestic extremism is a serious and growing national security threat.
Psaki then summarized the president’s three-pronged approach, in which the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) will join forces to identify and hunt down those believed to be “DVE” disseminators.
“The first (area) is President Biden’s mandate to ODNI today to conduct a comprehensive threat assessment of domestic violent extremism in coordination with the FBI and DHS,” Psaki said, adding that “this assessment will draw on analysis from across the government and, as appropriate, from non-governmental organizations.”
The second area of the Biden approach, Psaki went on to assert, would be to improve the National Security Council’s ability to counter “violent domestic extremists. The third component will focus on addressing evolving threats, radicalization, the role of social media, opportunities for improved information sharing, and operational responses.
But Psaki did not condemn the Antifa protesters who wreaked havoc in the streets of Portland and Seattle this week.
The violent Antifa protests have been going on for months. On the same day as Biden’s inauguration, Antifa started violent protests in several states. In Seattle, they blocked traffic, burned American flags and violently vandalized the local federal courthouse and Democratic Party headquarters building, as well as spray-painting abusive messages about Biden on the Democratic Party building.
“On domestic unrest, first of all, does the president have anything to say about the violence in Oregon and Washington state?” One reporter asked Psaki. She replied that the national security team is keeping a close eye on these matters, but has no updates to provide to the media at this Time.
