U.S. House Republican (GOP) Leader Kevin McCarty (R-Calif.) said Thursday (21) that former President Trump (R-Texas) is still capable of leading the Republican Party even after he leaves office.

McCarthy appeared on “Fox News Channel” when asked if Trump was the leader of the Republican Party. He replied, “I think President Trump still has the ability to lead and unite this party. Yes, President Trump has the ability to lead this party.”

McCarthy said Trump “has been able to steer us in the right direction to keep America strong.”

At a Capitol Hill briefing, McCarthy said each former president has been active in his or her own party for some Time.

This president, he said, “has had a lot of great successes in office, and he’s brought people into the party who weren’t part of it before. He should continue to be involved in that way.”

“I was asked a question earlier about what the Republican Party should focus on, or who should be the leader of the party. One of the things we’ve seen President Trump push for over the last four years is that he’s listened to the voices (of the people) that no one else in either party has heard. Those are the voices that we should continue to listen to.”

Trump’s plans for after he leaves office remain unclear. He told supporters on Jan. 20, “We’ll be back in some form.”

Jason Miller, a Trump campaign adviser who flew to Florida with Trump that day, said Trump will campaign for Republican candidates in the 2022 election.

Miller added this week that Trump will be America’s “leader in voting and voter integrity.
