Australian PM: We need to know the truth about the China outbreak

Australian Prime Minister John Morrison said that taking the lead in calling for an investigation into the source of the outbreak was an open and honest move by the Australian government because Australians want to understand how the outbreak started.

At a press conference on Jan. 20, a reporter asked whether it was a mistake for Australia to take the lead in asking for an investigation into the source of the outbreak and whether it should have acted with other countries.

Morrison said Australia was with the EU and acting on the basis of the EU motion. “Australia is acting honestly and we’re interested in knowing how (the outbreak) started, that’s all. I think Australians want to know (that). What people expect is a frank Australian government that is interested in knowing the truth and being open and honest.”

He also asked rhetorically, “Why would you not want to know that, what’s so embarrassing about that to ask?”

After months of delay, the Chinese Communist Party has finally allowed a World health Organization expert mission into China to investigate the outbreak.

British independent television station ITV aired a documentary, “Outbreak: The Virus That Shook The World,” on Jan. 19. According to the documentary, there is evidence of an increase in cases in Wuhan between January 5 and 17, 2020, but official Communist Party data at the Time showed no new cases during that period.

A doctor with inside knowledge of the Wuhan outbreak said in the program, “We knew the virus was spreading from person to person. But when we attended a hospital meeting, we were told not to talk about it.”

Senator Matt Canavan (R) of Queensland, Australia, said the documentary underscored the importance of an independent investigation into the source of the outbreak.

“That’s why the (Australian) federal government has consistently called for a reasonable and transparent investigation.” He told NineNews.com, “The question must also be asked here: if the Chinese (communist) state has nothing to hide here, why are they going to this effort to cover it up?”

After Australia publicly called for an independent investigation into the outbreak, the Chinese Communist Party imposed a series of economic retaliation on Australia. The Australian government has said it will not back down under economic duress.
