Abstract: This so-called “Anti-Communist Salvation League” case is a huge unjust case in the Cultural Revolution in the two provinces. The people below were arrested, fought and persecuted to death because of the implication, which became a grand excuse for the opposition and the military to massacre the rebels. The scene described by Qian Wenjun, the head of the “Liuzhou Railway Bureau Industrial and Mechanical Union”, who was present at the “4.22” meeting, was that the whole podium was full of people talking nonsense, and even Zhou Enlai had changed into a different person. It was clear that the fires in Nanning were caused by the army and the “JIAC” shelling, but we were the ones who set the fires.
“The central government’s characterization of the “July 25 speech
The so-called “July 25th” speech, that is, the “Central Committee and the head of the Central Cultural Revolution received some comrades of the two factions of the masses and some cadres of the army from Guangxi to study in Beijing,” an important instruction. The Time was from 1:05 to 6:15 a.m. on July 25, 1968. The place was in the East Hall of the Great Hall of the People.
The central leaders who attended the reception speech were Zhou Enlai (Premier, member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee), Chen Boda (head of the Central Cultural Revolution Group, member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee), Kang Sheng (advisor of the Central Cultural Revolution Group, member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee), Yao Wenyuan (member of the Central Cultural Revolution Group, first deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Revolutionary Committee), Xie Fuzhi (Vice Premier, Minister of Public Security, director of the Beijing Municipal Revolutionary Committee), Huang Yongsheng (Chief of the General Staff, director of the Guangdong Provincial Revolutionary Committee), Wu Faxian (Deputy Chief of the General Staff, commander of the Air Force), Wen Yucheng (Deputy Chief of the General Staff, commander of the Beijing Garrison).
Those who were received were the representatives of the two Guangxi factions of the “United Fingers” (royalists, full name “United Command of Proletarian Revolutionaries”) and the Guangxi “4.2.2” (rebels, full name “Guangxi 4.2.2 Revolutionary Action Command”) who came to Beijing to attend the “Mao Zedong Thought Study Class”, as well as some cadres of the Guangxi Garrison.
In the five hours and ten minutes long meeting, the whole speech of the head of the central government was full of fierce criticism and severe condemnation of the Guangxi “4.2.2” faction, the sharpness of its tone and the fierce wording were rare among the central leaders to the mass organizations during the Cultural Revolution. It was a situation in which the masses rose up and attacked, and only allowed to admit guilt but not to defend themselves.
For example, when speaking about the Nanning fire, there is this indefensible paragraph, hats and sticks flying together to reprimand the representatives of the “4.22” faction.
Wu Fa Xian: They were the ones who set the fire in Nanning.
Premier (Zhou Enlai): So many houses were burned, it was you who burned them.
Wu Fa Xian: July 21, in the area of Minsheng Road burned more than 1,200 houses, is not you (Cao Dongfeng) command.
Huang Yongsheng: Department store building is occupied by you, who set the fire if not you? (1)
Let’s take a look at the scene described by Qian Wenjun, the head of the “Liuzhou Railway Bureau Industrial and Mechanical Union”, who was present at the “4.22” meeting: the whole podium was talking nonsense, and even Zhou Enlai had changed his personality. Obviously, the fire in Nanning was caused by the army and the “UNF” shelling, but we became the “4.22” who set the fire. …… I finally understand.” I finally understood the meaning of “to add to the crime, what is not to say”. The whole situation of the meeting became a crusade to settle accounts with us. It was a sentencing session to pronounce our political death sentence, that’s all …… until dawn, when this unforgettable meeting finally came to an end. Our “revolution” also came to an end, as the saying goes, “the king told the minister to die, the minister had to die”. However, it was an eye-opener for me to learn about the so-called “divine meanness”. (2)
This “July 25” speech was used as an “important instruction” of the “proletarian command” and was issued in large quantities by the local revolutionary committees, revolutionary groups, or military control committees and leftist support units as It was published in large quantities by local revolutionary committees, revolutionary groups or military control committees, and left-supporting troops as a compulsory textbook for all mass organizations, cadres and the masses, and had a wide influence. Although this speech was made only in response to the problems of the Guangxi rebels, it became an “important instruction” that played an extraordinary role in guiding the Cultural Revolution movement all over the country. Once upon a time, the rebel factions all over the country were the “iron fists” and “iron brooms” on which the “proletarian command” relied, but the time has changed and there is no need for them anymore. In 1968, when the mass rebellion was no longer needed, the “proletariat command” had already placed the rebel faction in the status of “revolutionary objects”, and the former “iron broom” had become the historical garbage to be swept away. The former “iron broom” had been turned into historical garbage.
The “Anti-Communist Salvation League” General Mission in Guangzhou and its Branch Mission in Guangxi
In this speech, a sensational issue of the “Anti-Communist Salvation League” was also mentioned.
Zhou Enlai said: “Is there no ‘Anti-Communist Salvation League’ in your organization (referring to Guangxi’s ‘4.2.2’)? The reason why so many counter-revolutionary crimes occurred in Guangxi is that there are black hands behind. The main group of the ‘Anti-Communist Salvation League’ is in Guangzhou, and you have a branch group in Guangxi. When they have an opening, they burrow in, and both sides have to be investigated.” Kang Sheng said, “It so happens that you have the ‘Anti-Communist Salvation League’ general regiment in Guangzhou and the sub-regiment in Guangxi. Don’t you have contact with the Guangdong ‘flag faction’? Some of the heads of the ‘Flag Faction’ have become the heads of the ‘Anti-Communist Salvation League’, and I am afraid that there is also this problem in your area.”
Zhou Enlai said, “Didn’t you (referring to Bai Jianping, a representative of the Liuzhou rebel army of the ‘4.2.2’ faction) uncover two of them? There are more in the ‘4.2.2’!”
Kang Sheng said, “Today in Guangxi there is the problem of revolution and counter-revolution, as pointed out in the ‘July 3’ bulletin, there are many internal contradictions among the people, but the contradiction between the enemy and me is the main one, the ‘Anti-Communist Salvation League’ is in your place, there are also There are also Trotskyists and remnants of the Kuomintang.”
This so-called “Anti-Communist Salvation League” case was a huge case of injustice during the Cultural Revolution in the two GuangDong regions. The heads of the “Flag Faction” in Guangdong and the “4.22.2” rebellion in Guangxi were falsely accused of being the heads of the “Anti-Communist Salvation League”, and the people under them were arrested, fought and persecuted to death because of their involvement. This became a grand excuse for the antagonists and the military to massacre the rebels.
Crackdown on the Guangdong “Red Flag” Faction
In this speech, Zhou Enlai also singled out Wu Chuanbin, the head of the “Red Flag” faction in Guangdong: “Wu Chuanbin of Guangdong. Although he is a member of the Standing Committee of the Revolutionary Committee, he undermined the three qualities that Vice Chairman Lin said – revolutionary, scientific, organizational discipline, forged the letter of introduction, brought more than a hundred people to be the chairman of your black association ……”
Huang Yongsheng said, “Wu Chuanbin, this guy is a member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Revolutionary Committee, he is fanning the flames everywhere, sowing discord, he wants a faction to take power, creating rumors everywhere ……”
Wu Chuanbin, a student of Zhongshan University in Guangzhou during the Cultural Revolution. In January 1967, he led a power grab in Guangdong Province and in late February, he led the Red Flag Faction to storm the Guangzhou Military Region. He was a leading figure of the radical rebel faction in Guangdong. It was said that there was a rumor in Guangdong at that time: “Guangdong Cultural Revolution depends on Guangzhou, Guangzhou Cultural Revolution depends on CUHK, CUHK Cultural Revolution depends on Wu Chuanbin.”
In early June, he led the attack on the “Dongfeng faction” and the “Revolutionary Committee” of Sun Yat-sen University. The Red Flag of Zhongshan University removed the siege on the “Revolutionary Committee” only after the “Suburban Poor Union” of the “East Wind Faction” mobilized a large number of peasants to reinforce them.
On June 30, Wu Chuanbin led more than 100 people to storm the railway station of Guangzhou Railway Branch and forced them to take a train to Beijing to “file a complaint”. After arriving in Beijing, he stayed at the Beijing Aviation Institute, and on July 17 at Tsinghua University, and on July 18 and 19 he moved to the Beijing Aviation Institute, where he presided over a national meeting of the rebels, the so-called “Black Meeting of Beijing Aviation”. “4.22”, Qinghai “8.18”, Liaoning “8.31”, Sichuan “anti-final”, Heilongjiang The “Cannonball Faction” and other famous rebel factions in China, such as Kuai Dafu, were also present at the meeting.
