On the night of the inauguration of new President Joe Biden, riots resumed in the streets of downtown Portland, Oregon. The New York Times reported that some protesters said they did not expect Biden to take office to immediately overturn racial injustice and that “there is nothing Biden can do to save us. In Seattle, Washington, protesters also took to the streets on the 20th, smashing doors and windows of businesses and handing out flyers that read, “Just because the Democrats are in power doesn’t mean that the oppressed people are winning.
As the new administration takes office, unrest in the streets of two major cities in the northwestern U.S. is heating up again, highlighting the difficult challenges ahead for Biden, who called for unity at the inauguration.
Months of street protests erupted in Portland after the death of George Floyd, an African-American man who was crushed by a white police officer in Minnesota in late May 2020. The demonstrators attacked the federal courthouse and the Trump administration deployed federal agents to arrest the troublemakers.

The New York Times reported that federal agents in camouflage uniforms sprayed tear gas and fired pepper guns at protesters on the streets around the Portland branch of the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), and a few protesters burned Biden’s campaign banner on the night of the 20th.
Seattle’s downtown area also saw street protests on the 20th, protesters alleged that because of racial injustice, police brutality, immigration issues than and corporate power and the mass protests in 2020, until now has not ended, definitely not because of the change of president and stop.

The New York Times reported that about 150 people protested in the streets of Seattle on the 20th, and at one point attacked a federal court. The protesters shouted anti-Trump slogans as well as anti-Biden slogans.
