Concerns about the incoming administration’s tighter gun control have greatly spurred gun sales in the U.S. In the run-up to Biden‘s inauguration, there was a buying boom for Glock pistols and semi-automatic weapons, which were even snapped up in some stores.
Among Biden’s campaign promises to end gun violence were a ban on assault weapons, closing loopholes in gun background checks, limiting weapons inventories and ending online gun sales.
According to business magazine Forbes 18, gun sales in the U.S. are already at a high level, fueled by the expected crackdown.
Danielle Jaymes, manager of a California gun store, told Forbes that Glocks are selling so fast that they can’t keep them in stock. Her store sold 192 Glocks in a week, and the 9mm rounds were so popular that she could only keep a limited supply of 100 rounds a day.
“People will buy anything they can get their hands on because the supply is so limited.” “If I had a million rounds of 9mm ammunition right now, I could sell it in two days,” said Jaymes.
Not only is Biden’s view of gun control worrisome to gun enthusiasts, but Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has long supported even stricter gun control. During her tenure as California’s attorney general, she has implemented gun control measures, supported strong penalties for gun crimes, and led the charge to prosecute those who violate gun laws.
Jemez, who is selling AR-15 semi-automatic rifles in large numbers, said, “I barely had Time to put the AR-15 on the wall. A lot of people are worried about the assault weapons ban that the president-elect and vice president are talking about.”
The U.S. saw record gun sales last year due to the communist virus pandemic, riots and rumors of gun control. The FBI said gun background checks reached a record 39.7 million in 2020, a 40 percent increase over the previous year.
According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), which tracks and analyzes gun sales, Americans are buying guns for self-protection amid heightened fears, with 8.4 million first-time gun purchases in 2020, said Mark Oliva, director of public affairs for the NSSF. The Biden-Hojinli gun control plan is expensive and simply untenable.
