Deng Xiaoyun posted on Twitter around 10 a.m. on the 18th, “I just called the detention center to ask, and I was told that Qin Yongpei is no longer in there. Up to now my lawyer and I have not actually received any notification!!! See the detention center at first asked who it was, asked me to provide my ID number before giving a check, then called again and kicked the ball to the court. Call the court, continue to reply to the judge Liang Jin Kang went to court, do not know.”
Then, Deng Xiaoyun continued to tweet at 10:38 a.m., “Please pay attention to Qin Yongpei is missing!” Then she tweeted “Qin Yongpei is missing!” The court has called to find the judge Liang Jinkang, but he is not here, I don’t know!
Deng Xiaoyun said that the staff of the detention center replied to her that “his case case unit requires us to consult him to go through the case unit consent.” In Deng Xiaoyun repeatedly asked, the staff replied that “under normal circumstances, previously detained in the detention center, there is only one direction, is to go to prison. The prison will notify the family.”

The other party first asked Deng Xiaoyun if she had time in the afternoon, because she wanted to return Qin Yongpei’s keys and identity card to her, and said she wanted to negotiate with the owner on how to clean up Qin’s lawyer’s belongings, and had to handle the unsealing. When Deng Xiaoyun asked about the whereabouts of her cell phone and laptop, the other party replied that the laptop was not ready to be returned because the case had not yet been heard by the court.
When Deng Xiaoyun stressed that the object is her, the other party replied: “returned to you also useless, the things inside has been done technical identification, returned to you can not use, so we have to wait for the case to be heard.” And again stressed the afternoon to go to the company first for the company’s unsealing procedures.
In the discovery of Qin Yongpei’s whereabouts, Deng Xiaoyun said in a tweet at 9:56 a.m. that day, she found that the letter sent to Qin Yongpei on September 9 was actually returned to her “intact” on January 6. In response to the official crackdown, Deng Xiaoyun told Watch China on Jan. 19 that she “hopes to respect laws and regulations and stop torturing family members!” She also hoped to maintain the right to correspondence and Qin Yongpei’s right to read books.
In addition to stressing that the authorities should release Qin Yongpei without charge, Deng Xiaoyun also stressed, “He is not guilty, and his passion for helping others should not be subjected to such blows. He has always loved life and loved his hometown and was eager to help others!”
Ever outspoken lawyer Qin Yongpei was the subject of an official crackdown since May 2018 due to his concern for persecuted prisoners of conscience, and led to the cancellation of his lawyer’s practicing certificate by the local judicial bureau without his knowledge.
In September 2018, Qin Yongpei established the Baiju Ming Legal Advisory Service at his former office address and set up the “China Lawyers’ Post-Counsel Club” together with Wen Donghai, Wang Yu and Sui Muqing, who had lost their licenses to practice law in defense of human rights. During this period, Qin Yongpei publicly sued the then Minister of Justice Fu Zhenghua, accusing him of criminal offenses, and provided assistance to persecuted prisoners of conscience on several occasions.
On the evening of October 31, 2019, around 5:00 pm, more than 10 police officers from the Nanning Public Security Bureau barged into the office of the former Baiju Ming Law Firm (now Baiyongming Legal Consulting Service Co., Ltd.), searched the office without presenting any legal documents, and took Qin Yongpei under control for three hours. Finally, the police took away the director of the firm and Qin Yongpei, and sealed Qin Yongpei’s office.
Qin Yongpei, who was taken away by the police, was criminally detained on suspicion of “inciting subversion of state power” and was held in Nanning City Detention Center No. 1. While Qin Yongpei was in custody, his lawyers requested to meet with him, but were denied access on the grounds that he was “suspected of endangering state security,” and lawyers who were following the case and raising money for Qin’s lawyers were threatened by police.
Human Rights Watch reported on December 6, 2019 that lawyers representing Guangxi human rights lawyer Qin Yongpei filed a lawsuit today against the authorities handling the case for violating the law.
Deng Xiaoyun, the wife of Qin Yongpei’s lawyer, said, “Today two lawyers, Song Yusheng and Wang Le, the defenders of Qin Yongpei, came to Nanning to file a lawsuit against the authorities handling the case against Qin Yongpei for allegedly inciting subversion of state power by not informing him of the reasons for not allowing him to meet, not informing him in writing of the names and contact information of the department and staff responsible for contacting the defenders, and not informing him of the main facts that have been identified in violation of the law. facts, to the Nanning City Procuratorate and the Public Security Department of the autonomous region respectively.”
