Unhappy with the epidemic blockade stormed the streets! Netherlands 2000 people protesting by police water cannon to drive away

More than 2,000 people gathered in Amsterdam yesterday (18) to protest against the government’s blockade policy and eventually clashed with the police, who used water cannons to disperse the crowd.

More than 2,000 protesters gathered in front of the National Museum and the Van Gogh Museum of Art, holding “Freedom! Stop the blockade” signs and shouted “We want freedom”!

The Amsterdam government rejected the application for the protest in front of the museum square, and when police officers approached to advise them to leave, the protesters did not comply and threw firecrackers at the police.

The Amsterdam government said in a statement that no one was wearing a mask and almost no one was observing the social distance rule, forcing us to disperse the crowd for health reasons. The Dutch police also arrested about 100 protesters, in addition to evicting people with water cannons.

In order to stop the spread of the epidemic, the Dutch government closed schools and most stores in December and this week announced that the ban would be extended for another 3 weeks.

In fact, the Netherlands was more reluctant to impose social restrictions than other neighboring countries at the beginning of the epidemic. But when the second wave of the epidemic hit in winter, the rapid spread and increased pressure on hospitals forced the government to impose restrictions.
