A British variant of Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) may have entered The Japanese community. The Japanese Broadcasting Association (NHK) reported that the Ministry of health, Labour and Welfare detected the British variant of the virus strain from three infected people in Shizuoka Prefecture, but the three people have not left Japan recently, and are now investigating the epidemic in the direction of community infection in order to trace the route of infection.
The report pointed out that the three infected men and women in their 20s to 60s, the three people did not stay in foreign countries, and did not have contact with the confirmed strain of the mutant virus. The three people showed symptoms early this month, and the relevant units found the variant strain of the virus when they conducted random genetic testing on the positive test.
The total number of people infected with the mutant strain of the virus in Japan is currently 45, and this is the first time that a person infected with the mutant strain of the virus has appeared in Japan without any experience abroad or knowledge of the route of infection.
The director of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Takashi Wakita, said they are currently investigating the route of infection, but he believes that the mutant strain of the virus may have been infected in the community in Japan, the Institute will strengthen its observation of Shizuoka Prefecture to investigate whether the mutant strain of the virus has spread.
