When people lie, they subconsciously imitate the actions of the person they are talking to.
How can we tell if the other person is lying? Now there is a very simple way to tell! A recent study conducted by Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam found that when people are lying, even if their faces are not red and their speech sounds truthful and sincere, they often unconsciously start to “imitate” the actions of the person they are talking to as long as they want to make the lie more believable.
According to the scientific journal “Royal Society Open Science” reported that researchers found several subjects and asked them to tell the truth, simple lies, difficult lies and extremely difficult lies after listening to the interviewer’s questions. It was found that the more difficult the lie was, the more frequently the subjects imitated the interviewer’s body movements. Even if they were told beforehand, “We will observe your physical reactions when you lie,” they would still eventually subconsciously begin to imitate.
The researchers pointed out that when the brain has to deal with information contrary to the truth, the cognitive system will tend to body language, will automatically imitate each other’s movements to achieve the same body movements. Therefore, if the more difficult to tell a lie, the more often with the other person’s movements “synchronization” will also be higher. Next time, to know if the other person is lying, just observe how often he imitates your actions, you can tell.
