Religious Freedom Day Pompeo says Chinese Communist Party poses real threat to U.S.

Saturday, Jan. 16, is National Religious Freedom Day in the United States.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo sent out back-to-back tweets in the morning, noting that religious freedom is the foundation of a nation’s prosperity and that the Chinese Communist Party has posed a real threat to the United States.

In his first tweet, sent at 8:30 a.m., Pompeo said, “The Chinese Communist Party (is) a threat to the United States. And the Chinese people are not. for 50 years, the U.S. submitted to the CCP and only under the Trump administration did (the submission to the CCP) stop.”

Fifteen minutes later, Pompeo sent a second tweet, talking about what religious freedom means to a country. He said, “Our founding fathers understood that a nation can only prosper when its people can exercise their religious freedom. The government should guarantee this right, not just promote a particular religious ideology. On National Religious Freedom Day, we want to reaffirm our commitment – to protect this universal right.”

After another 15 minutes, Pompeo sent a third relevant tweet with a clip from his previous speech expressing the fundamental differences between the Communist Party and the United States. He said, “The Trump administration has ended decades of (U.S.) appeasement and misguided policies of engagement with the CCP. (Now) we will no longer ignore the fundamental political and ideological differences between the United States and China – the difference between freedom and tyranny.”
