U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday (16) cited “conventional weapons proliferation” as the reason for sanctioning Iran, China and the United Arab Emirates and other seven companies trading with the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), saying these companies supply weapons to Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, affecting the situation in the Middle East, and imposed sanctions on three Iranian organizations.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the United States, including China’s Jiangyin Mascot Special Steel Co.
Pompeo statement said that three Iranian organizations: Iran’s Marine Industries Organization (Marine Industries Organization), Aerospace Industries Organization (Aerospace Industries Organization), Iran Aviation Industries Organization (Iran Aviation Industries Organization), because of the supply of conventional weapons to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, blacklisted.
Pompeo said people who knowingly divert 15 items of material that the State Department believes are used in connection with Iran’s nuclear, military or ballistic missile programs, including specific types of aluminum and steel, will be subject to sanctions.
During his presidency, U.S. President Donald Trump has tried to force Tehran authorities to renegotiate with the United States over Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as its activities in the Middle East. Iran, for its part, reached an “Iran nuclear deal” with world powers in 2015 to limit the development of its nuclear program in exchange for a reduction in international sanctions against Tehran, and the U.S. withdrew from the agreement in 2018 on the grounds that it was insufficient to curb Iran’s nuclear activities.
