President Donald Trump is accused of colluding with Russia during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, and the U.S. Justice Department has set up a “Russiagate” investigation. Republican South Carolina U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, yesterday released documents from the Judiciary Committee’s investigation into the Russia probe, saying it was “the most incompetent and corrupt investigation ever conducted by the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The Department of Justice (DOJ) is the most incompetent and corrupt investigation in the history of the FBI and DOJ.
The Russia investigation was aimed at investigating whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential campaign, according to Forsyth News. The Senate Judiciary Committee, led by Graham, later investigated the law enforcement agency’s Russia probe and yesterday released all unclassified documents from the investigation. Graham said the investigation process showed a systemic failure at the top of the U.S. judicial system.
Graham pointed out that the investigation was not stopped when it should have been because the investigators were too biased and ignored all the information proving the Trump campaign’s innocence and only wanted to obtain findings that were consistent with their preconceptions. But Graham also added that the law enforcement officials who conducted the investigation with preconceived notions do not represent the hard-working patriots in the justice department.
Graham also noted that the investigators in the case put the power of law enforcement in the service of political objectives, and that the information presented to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court did not include information that would prove the innocence of those under investigation. The information presented to the FISA court did not contain exculpatory information, and the lives of many of those investigated went to hell. Graham hopes that in the future, counterintelligence forces will be restrained so that this does not happen again, and calls on current FBI Director Christopher Wray to continue to reform the law enforcement system.
“The original special prosecutor for Russiagate was Robert Mueller, whose team found no evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential election. After Mueller stepped down, former U.S. Attorney General William Barr tapped John Durham to take over as Russia special counsel and continue the investigation.
