The outbreak of pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) in Wuhan, China, has reignited, with some areas in Hebei and Heilongjiang closed again and local governments on edge, fearing that outsiders will become carriers of the virus. The government of Yibin City, Sichuan Province, has recently offered a reward of 2,000 yuan to encourage people to report illegal entrants to the county until the end of the epidemic.
According to Chinese media reports, the government website of Gao County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province, released a news release on January 13, referring to the Gao County Office of Emergency Response to the Wulong Epidemic issued on January 9, “Gao County Office of Emergency Response to the New Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic on the Notice of Reward for Reporting Illegal Entrants to the County”, with the aim of strictly preventing the importation of the epidemic, timely and accurately grasping the dynamics of illegal entrants to the county, and further improving the prevention and control of the epidemic outside the country.
The notice mentioned that the object of prosecution is “since June 1, 2020 did not take the initiative to declare illegal entry to the county”, illegal entrants are encouraged to take the initiative to declare, can be less severe treatment; if not declared, will be punished in accordance with the “Immigration Control Law of the People’s Republic of China”.
In addition, the notice also said that it will provide whistle-blowing reward money, where the whistle-blowing of illegal immigrants to the line is proven to be true, the first whistle-blower will be rewarded at a rate of 2,000 RMB.
