Trump account was shut down Taiwan writer: he is a super platform provider should be compensated

Social platform leader Twitter and Facebook shut down Trump‘s account, involving freedom of speech has caused heated debate from all walks of life.

The U.S. Capitol was recently broken into by suspected members of the leftist group Antifa and a group of radicals, resulting in four deaths and 52 arrests. The US social media platform leader Twitter and Facebook announced the closure of President Trump’s personal account for this reason, triggering a global outcry. Taiwanese writer Yan Zeya said that the closure of Trump’s account is not only unfair but should be compensated from the perspective of advertising revenue and celebrity users of social media platforms.

There is growing evidence that left-wing activists participated in and incited people to break into Congress after the “Save America” march in Washington, DC on January 6. The picture shows the scene of the January 6 event in DC. (Photo/The Epoch Times)

The company’s website is a private company, and the closure of Trump’s account does not seem to violate the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution from the point of view of freedom of business operation, but if we analyze it from the point of view of celebrity users and advertising revenue of the social platform, it shows an unfair phenomenon.

Yan Zeya explained that Trump is a platform user, not a buyer, like the general public. It can be said that “although we use these platforms for free, we also give them our eyeballs for free, and then they package our eyeballs to sell ads to make money”, that is, “advertising is their source of profit, and it is our eyeballs that are sold.

From the point of view of marketing theory, Yan Zeya said, the social platform users are like upstream suppliers, “Trump is like a super supplier who can bring millions of followers to the platform”, and the assets brought by this super supplier, the social platform continues to enjoy, “but unilaterally suspend Trump’s right to use the platform, this is of course very unfair”.

Yan Zeya believes a reasonable approach would be for each user to receive a variable value from the platform that represents the number of “eyeballs brought” to show the cumulative value of the account, so that if the platform later wants to delete the user’s account, it can show how much substantial compensation the user should receive. “After all, the user’s account is the most important asset of the platform, and it is only reasonable that each account should have a valuation.

The company’s main goal is to provide the best possible solution to the problem. The company’s platform is actually relying on Trump and his supporters to earn a lot of revenue, and today if they still want to use the cancellation of the right to use the way to earn fame, it is really unfair.

According to the report, after the riot in the United States on the 6th, President Trump tweeted on the 7th, condemning the demonstrators who broke into the Congress and used violence, and called on the demonstrators to maintain peace and rationality, abide by the law, and leave the Congress, but this move was announced by Facebook and Twitter to permanently close Trump’s personal account; even if Trump switched to another social platform Parler, Google and Apple also took Parler’s App offline for the reason of preventing incitement to violence.
