Washington announced the closure of 13 Metro stations until the 21st in response to the presidential inauguration

The Washington Metrorail (Metro) announced on Jan. 13 its presidential inauguration service plans (Inauguration service plans) to make service adjustments to the Washington Metrorail and Metrobus. 13 stations in the zone will be closed until the end of service next Thursday, the 21st. During this time, trains will not stop at the closed stations (no passengers will be picked up).

Beginning Friday the 15th and continuing for six days, Washington trains will operate on a Saturday service frequency (every 12 minutes on the Red Line/every 15 minutes on other lines), bypassing all closed stations, while local officials urge residents to stay out of the city. Saturday hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

General Manager Paul J. Wiedefeld said, “We are working closely with our regional and federal partners to ensure public safety during this special national security event and to discourage travel within the security zone.” “While we support law enforcement programs to enhance security, we also provide essential services for residents who need to get to work for medical appointments and grocery stores.”

In addition the notice announces that 26 bus routes will be detoured within the expanded safety zone from the 15th through the 21st. Metrobus will operate normal service on weekdays and weekends to accommodate customers traveling outside the region, except on Jan. 20. on the 20th, buses will operate on a Saturday schedule.

The 13 stations closed at Washington Station are specifically the following stations.

Red Line: Farragut North, Judiciary Square,Union Station

Yellow Line: Archives, Arlington Cemetery

Blue, Orange, Silver lines: Farragut West, McPherson Square, Federal Center SW, Capitol South, Smithsonian, Federal Triangle
