Nike: Stop donating to lawmakers who opposed Biden’s certification on Jan. 6

Nike has joined the many companies sanctioning donations to Republican lawmakers who object to the 2020 Electoral College votes and will no longer get donations from Nike.

The footwear and athletic apparel company said in a statement that it “will not support members of Congress who oppose the certification of the Electoral College votes …….” Breitbart News believes that this announcement is a symbolic statement and that Nike’s contributions to Republican candidates would have been modest.

Nike’s political action committee (Nike PAC) is definitely supporting the Democratic candidate. Of the $213,000 in political spending in the 2020 election cycle, more than 75 percent went to support Democratic candidates; and 82 percent of the spending on House races went to support Democrats.

According to records kept by Open Secrets, five of the Republican House members who received contributions from Nike’s political action committees voted against certifying the Electoral College votes on Jan. 6: David Kustoff of Tennessee, Ben Cline of Virginia Adrian Smith of Nebraska, Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania and Blaine Luetkemeyer of Missouri.

Nike’s political contributions to Senate candidates were more evenly distributed, with 54 percent of the money going to Democrats, and none of the Republican senators who received Nike contributions participated in the Jan. 6 counter-certification.
