The epidemic situation in European countries is serious, and countries are stepping up prevention. The United Kingdom on Wednesday added 1,564 deaths from the Chinese communist virus, the highest record since the spread of the epidemic; Italy recently worsened the epidemic, the authorities proposed to extend the state of emergency until the end of April; Portugal will again implement a total blockade measures.
British Prime Minister Johnson said that although the epidemic prevention measures in some areas are beginning to bear fruit, but is still in the early stages, do not rule out more stringent restrictions. British health authorities informed on Wednesday that there were 1,564 new deaths from the CCP virus in the UK, the highest death record since the start of the epidemic, and the UK has accumulated 84,767 deaths, the most in all of Europe. A total of 47,525 new cases were confirmed on Wednesday.
British Prime Minister Johnson said Wednesday that the severe outbreak, especially the increase in serious cases, has put great pressure on the medical sector. However, Johnson also said that the grounding measures and the restrictions implemented in various regions “have begun to bear fruit”.
Johnson said the government’s premise is to allow schools to “open as soon as possible,” but there are many conditions that need to be met to start school in mid-February, including the vaccination program must progress smoothly, and the vaccine must be effective against the South African and Brazilian variants of the virus. Johnson stressed that there is no evidence that the vaccine is not effective against these 2 variants of the virus.
In order to stop the spread of the epidemic, Johnson said, will step up vaccination. The British government plans to start vaccination 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as soon as possible. Johnson said it is currently limited by the limited supply of vaccines.
Portugal announced Wednesday that it will impose a second full-scale blockade starting this Friday to contain the rapid spread of the outbreak.
Italy will extend its state of emergency until the end of April. Italian Health Minister Speranza said Wednesday that the state of emergency imposed to prevent the spread of the Chinese communist virus outbreak will be extended until the end of April, as there are no signs of the outbreak slowing down. Speaking in the lower house, Speranza said: “The general deterioration of the epidemic over the past week has returned Italy to the stage of its spread. Due to the deterioration of several indicators, it is appropriate to extend the state of emergency until April 30.” Since the outbreak of the epidemic in February last year, Italy has recorded 79,819 deaths, the second highest number of deaths in Europe, and 2.303 million confirmed cases.
Germany’s health ministry said Wednesday that the current epidemic prevention measures are likely to be extended until next month to prevent the spread of the variant virus. Germany will not be able to lift all embargo measures on Feb. 1, said Health Ministry Spann, who also stressed the need to further reduce contact with others to ward off the more virulent variant of the virus. After tightening the national embargo last week and extending it until the end of January, the German government approved on Wednesday stricter controls on incoming travelers. Under the new rules, Germany will require screening of people entering the country from areas at high risk of outbreaks or countries with new variants of the virus.
German health authorities reported on Wednesday that there were 19,600 new confirmed cases, for a total of 1,953,426 cases, and 1,060 new deaths, for a total of 42,637 cases.
France is currently averaging 20,000 new cases per day, with 23,000 new cases diagnosed on Wednesday. The French government is considering tighter restrictions, but keeping schools open.
