U.S. Senator: Will oppose any proposal to move the U.S. toward socialism

Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker said Monday, Jan. 11, that he would “strongly oppose” any congressional proposal that could lead the United States toward socialism.

In his weekly report to constituents, Wicker said, “The Senate’s narrow margin means that without bipartisan support, it will be difficult to pass any legislation. That should stop lawmakers from pushing far-left proposals that don’t garner broad consensus. My Republican colleagues and I will stand firm against any proposal that could lead our country toward socialism.”

The English-language Epoch Times concluded on Wednesday, Jan. 13, that socialism is a precursor to communism, a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the achievement of communism. Communism is a failed political theory that has led to the unnatural loss of tens of millions of lives in countries where communism is the ruling system.

It is known that in recent years, more and more Democrats have advocated socialist policies. Some have openly admitted to being socialists, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).

In addition to Wicker, there are other Republicans who have vowed to challenge socialist policies in the new Congress.

California Republican U.S. Rep. Calvert (R) said last week, “America has never seen socialist policies come so close to becoming law as they are today. I vow to oppose these dangerous, radical policies. The voters of the 42nd District sent me here to do just that. I will do everything in my power to stop socialism, and I hope my colleagues will join me.”
