The city of Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, has implemented “off-site quarantine”, transferring more than 20,000 villagers in Zengcun Township, Gaocheng District, where the epidemic is most serious, to other quarantine sites, on the grounds that the local area should be fully disinfected and sterilized to exclude environmental infections.
Shijiazhuang recently jumped to the most serious area of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Gaocheng District was also listed as a high-risk area. More than 95% of the cases in Gaocheng District came from Zengcun Township, with the first local case on the 2nd living in the township’s Xiaoguozhuang Village.
The 12 villages of Zengcun Town in Gaocheng District were notified yesterday to complete the transfer of more than 20,000 villagers in one day, “without leaving a single household or person behind”. Early in the morning before dawn, sleeping villagers were woken up by the village’s “loud speaker”: “All villagers pack their bags, register at the entrance of the village, listen to the arrangements for a unified bus, to the off-site centralized isolation observation.”
The online video shows a large bus parked on both sides of the road in Zengcun Township, with villagers carrying their luggage and taking their young and old on board one by one.
According to reports, the villagers ready to be transferred to isolation have so far completed three virus nucleic acid tests and one serum antibody test, they will be placed in various isolation sites in Shijiazhuang City, under isolation medical observation.
In Nanqiaozhai village, however, more than 20 farmers were still left behind. A villager said, “Those chickens, pigs and sheep always have to be raised, and some elderly people in the village who are unable to move need to be taken care of.”
Shijiazhuang, Xingtai and Langfang cities are under closed management, with people and vehicles not going out if not necessary to prevent the export of the epidemic. In Hebei province, there have been 326 confirmed cases and 234 asymptomatic cases since the beginning of the month, including 304 confirmed cases and 229 asymptomatic cases in Shijiazhuang, 21 confirmed cases and five asymptomatic cases in Xingtai and one confirmed case in Langfang.
