Facebook (FB-US) has announced that it will adjust its privacy policy so that WhatsApp users will have to share their personal information with Facebook, Instagram and other programs.
According to Apptopia’s statistics as of Sunday (10), 810,000 people worldwide have downloaded and used Signal, a nearly 17-fold increase since WhatsApp announced privacy policy adjustments on Jan. 6.
WhatsApp’s popularity has plummeted, with the number of daily downloads dropping by 7 percent to nearly 1.2 million on Sunday.
Under the new privacy policy, WhatsApp users are required to share user information such as location and cell phone numbers with Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. But Facebook’s past record of handling users’ private information has raised doubts, and many privacy advocates have suggested that users move to platforms such as Telegram or Signal.
Signal is a nonprofit App that was originally used mainly by journalists and human rights activists. Signal says it has increased its servers to handle the influx of users and traffic.
Musk also suggested on Twitter last Thursday that users switch to Signal, but shares of the medical device company Signal Advance (SIGL-US) soared, including a 5,000 percent jump in just three trading days on Monday. Despite reports clarifying the difference during this period, the rally has continued.

Signal Advance’s CEO stressed that the company is not connected to Musk or the communications software Signal, and strongly advised investors to remain cautious and to do their homework before investing.
