Demonstrators may be charged with stealing national security information after breaking into Congress and stealing computers from lawmakers

Supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump broke into Capitol Hill last Wednesday (6) and stole some electronic devices and documents. Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin of Washington, D.C., said Sunday (10) that the Justice Department is considering charging those involved with “theft of national security information.

Speaker of the House Pelosi’s spokesman Hammel confirmed on Friday that Pelosi’s laptop computer was stolen. Authorities later arrested Richard Barnett, a 60-year-old man from Arkansas, who broke into Pelosi’s office last Wednesday and took pictures with an envelope.

Although Hamill has said that the stolen laptop computer is Pelosi in the conference room for briefing purposes. The right-wing media reporter Sheaffer posted a photo on Twitter last Wednesday, showing the computer in Pelosi’s office before it was stolen, the image still remained on the email page, raising suspicions that important or confidential information inside the computer may have been leaked. Sheffer’s post has since been deleted.

In addition to the theft of Pelosi’s laptop, Oregon Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley posted a video on Twitter hours after the protesters broke into the Capitol, saying his office was vandalized, with the door almost smashed down and a laptop stolen from his desk.
