Patriotic Party Japarov Takes Nearly 80% of Votes After Kyrgyz Riots Topple Pro-CCP Regime

The Kyrgyz Central Election Commission announced on the 11th that 98% of the votes had been cast, with former acting president Sadyr Japarov winning with 79% of the vote.

In Kyrgyzstan, serious fraud was reported in the parliamentary elections last October, triggering massive demonstrations and riots. Mekenchil leader Sadyr Japarov became acting prime minister and interim president. Kyrgyzstan will elect a new president on 10 local time, the preliminary results of the election show that Japarov took nearly 80% of the votes.

According to the Kyrgyz Central Election Commission announced on the 11th, 98% of the votes have been opened, Japarov took 79% of the votes, the election does not need to enter the second round of voting. Japarov told reporters that he would take power in a time of hardship and crisis. A referendum was also held on the same day as the election, in which people had to choose between the cabinet system and the presidential system. According to the Kyrgyz CEC, the majority of voters supported reforming the constitution to give the president more power.

Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Russian-led economic and security alliance, has a Russian air base and relies on Moscow for economic support. It has been home to U.S. air bases in the past and was a major transportation hub for the war in Afghanistan.
