Leitheiser Advises Biden to Maintain Dialogue Tariffs

With the change of administration less than 10 days away, U.S. Trade Representative Lighthizer urged President-elect Joe Biden to maintain tariffs on China in a lengthy interview published in the Wall Street Journal on Monday.

Lighthizer also suggested weakening the World Trade Organization (WTO) so that the WTO would not prevent U.S. policies from being realized. Reitheiser has previously argued that the WTO cannot change China.

He also suggested that it should be made more difficult for U.S. companies to relocate overseas, although this would impede improving their competitiveness.

Leitheiser also praised Trump‘s policy toward China in the exclusive interview. He noted that the current U.S. administration has changed the way people think about China, and he hopes that will continue.

Leitheiser is known for his tough stance on China. Critics of Reitheiser consider him the most influential U.S. trade representative in years.
