Democrats plan to take Congressional disciplinary action against Republican Representatives Louie Gohmert and Mo Brooks in the coming days for challenging the stolen 2020 presidential election, according to a Jan. 10 report in the U.S. media outlet Gateway Pundit.
The Gateway Pundit says the public knew the Democrats would come to this. Democrats want to blame Trump supporters and Antifa for the riots at the Capitol on Republican lawmakers who had nothing to do with the incident. That’s what authoritarian governments will do. If Democrats have all the power, they will use that power to punish anyone who gets in their way of getting their way.
Senior Democratic lawmakers told Fox that the House is expected to file disciplinary actions against Rep. Louie Gohmert and Rep. Mo Brooks in the coming days for severe censure. Foxx was told that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) could also be affected. But Foxx has not yet been given a specific disciplinary package, nor does he know exactly what censure would be imposed on the lawmakers if the House were to consider disciplining them.
There are three types of formal disciplinary action in the U.S. House of Representatives: admonishment, severe reprimand and expulsion.
The U.S. House of Representatives has only severely censured 23 members in its history. The last one was former Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) in 2010. Expulsion from the House requires 2/3 of the votes of the House, which has expelled only five members in its history. However, the censure and severe reprimand sanctions require only a simple majority to pass.
