According to the announcement of the Chinese Republican Party (CRP), an overseas Chinese dissident group, Wang Ce, the founder of CRP and president of the Republican Party, died on January 4 in Valencia, Spain, at the age of 72 after a long illness.
Born in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province in 1949, Wang Ce studied in China and the United States, and received his doctorate in political science from the University of Hawaii. After arriving overseas in 1984, Wang Ce was engaged in the democracy movement for a long time and was deeply involved in the activities of democratic organizations such as the China Democratic Alliance and the China National League for Democracy.
In 1998, he was arrested and sentenced to four years in prison for his plan to propose a “Thirty-Year Political Reform Plan for China” to the Chinese Communist government and to prepare an opposition party in China.
In 2012, Wang Ce initiated the formation of the Republican Party of China in New York, and has served as its chairman since then.
When the news broke, it caused widespread shock among overseas dissidents. Hu Ping, editor-in-chief emeritus of Beijing Spring, Zhou Fenglock, founder of the human rights organization Humane China, and Liao Tianqi, president of the Chinese Independent PEN Association, have posted online tributes to Wang Ce.
