The U.S. National Guard Air Force has converted one of its C-17 Globemaster 3 transport aircraft into a mobile vaccination clinic with the primary mission of vaccination efforts in the outlying islands.
A press release from the National Guard Air Force said a C-17 transport aircraft, part of the 154th Flight Wing, has been converted into a mobile vaccination clinic with the primary mission of vaccinating personnel on neighboring islands, Defense Blog reported.
“A combined medical, logistics and combat guard team from Oahu, Hawaii, will travel to the Big Island, Maui and Kauai, Hawaii, to vaccinate local pandemic medics,” the release said.
The Hawaiian Islands consist of 19 larger islands and other small islands, with the main administrative center and population on Oahu, the 3rd largest island, including the city of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor. The Big Island of Hawaii is dominated by agriculture, with additional observatories high in the mountains, and has a total population of over 14,000 people.
In order to effectively control the outbreak, Hawaiian National Guard crews, will use the C-17, a mobile inoculation facility. Fly to the Big Island of Hawaii, Maui and Kauai.
