Trump speaks at a Washington rally on Jan. 6
U.S. President Donald Trump announced an orderly transition of power on Jan. 20. But Democratic lawmakers are still pressing ahead with the impeachment process, and CNN sources say the impeachment draft has been completed and will be formally introduced by three lawmakers on Monday (11).
On Friday (Jan. 8), CNN correspondent Manu Raju tweeted a resolution and said in a tweet that the final version of the impeachment draft has been completed and will be formally introduced on Monday, including a clause on “incitement to riot. The bill will be introduced by Democratic Representatives David Cicilline (D-N.Y.), Ted Lieu (R-Texas) and Jamie Raskin (D-N.Y.).
On Saturday, Reuters also cited two sources familiar with the matter as corroborating the news.
Right-wing media outlet Gateway Pundit reported that Democrats could pass impeachment in the House first and then vote on it in the Senate after Biden’s inauguration, which would prevent Trump from running for president again.
On Friday, Assistant Speaker of the House Katherine Clark, a Democrat, told CNN that the House would use all means to ensure Trump’s removal from office.
She also mentioned that if Pence does not agree to invoke the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove President Trump from office, House Democrats will vote on the articles of impeachment “as early as next week.
