Qatar and Saudi Arabia ended their 3.5-year political dispute and reopened their land border today. Qatar Airways and Saudi Arabian Airlines will also resume flights between Doha and Riyadh as of November.
Citing Qadha’s support for terrorism and its excessively close ties with Iran, Shahudi, Bahrain, Egypt and the Arab League announced in June 2017 that they had severed political, diplomatic and economic ties with Qadha and imposed a land, sea and air blockade on it. For its part, the Doha authorities have repeatedly denied the allegations, stressing that the move to sever ties was unjustified.
On the 5th of this month, the 41st Summit of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) was held in Sha’udi, after which it was announced that Sha’udi and three other Arab allied states that have imposed a blockade on Qada, have agreed to restore full relations with Qada.
AFP reporters saw cars crossing the border between al-Sha’udi and al-Qada today.
Qatar Airways said today via Twitter that flights to Riyadh will resume from 11, Jeddah from 14, and Dammam from 16.
Qatar Airways said, “We are also looking forward to restoring strong relations with major airports in Saudi Arabia, as well as with our trade and cargo partners in the country.”
Saudi Airlines also tweeted that flights from Riyadh and Jeddah to Duha will resume from 11 onwards.
