Krogh, 58, a former U.S. ambassador to Canada, was nominated by Trump in May 2019 to serve as ambassador to the United Nations and took office in September that year. She has also been a vocal advocate for Taiwan in the past. After photos of her September 2020 dinner with Li Guangzhang, director of Taiwan’s Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, New York, were released by foreign media, Kraft responded that the meeting with Taiwanese officials was “historic” and claimed that the United States was pushing for Taiwan’s return to the United Nations.
During his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Kraft has also been a vocal advocate of Taiwan’s international participation on various fronts. At an event at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington, DC, in December 2020, Kraft publicly praised Taiwan as a true force for good, in stark contrast to China’s human rights abuses. She has also shared a video photo of her participation in the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) jointly organized by Taiwan, the United States and Japan on the Internet. In the background of this photo, there is a cute Taiwanese black bear puppet, which is very impressive.
