Three anti-China protesters accused of assaulting Fu Guohao in Hong Kong were given heavy sentences.

The court sentenced three demonstrators of the “anti-China” movement to four years and three months to five and a half years in prison for allegedly imprisoning and assaulting a reporter from the Global Times at Hong Kong International Airport in August 2019. On August 13 of the previous year, when the “anti-China” movement was in full swing, a large number of protesters responded to the call of “Fly with You” and rallied at the airport. He was asked to show his press card, but he ignored them and ran away. He was then tied to a luggage trolley for several hours, beaten and had all his belongings seized.

The Central News Agency reported today that three protesters from the “anti-China” movement in Hong Kong were charged with imprisoning and assaulting a reporter from the Global Times at Hong Kong International Airport in August of last year, and were sentenced today to 4 years and 3 months to 5.5 years in prison. The three defendants were convicted by the court of rioting and sentenced to prison.

The police arrested Bi Hui-fen and three others the year before, accusing them of participating in a riot at the airport, attacking Wanchai reporter Fu Guohao, and participating in illegal assembly and illegal confinement.

The District Court ruled the day before yesterday that the three were convicted of a number of charges and deferred their sentences until today. According to Hong Kong electronic media from the court, the judge sentenced Lai Wan-lung to five years and three months in prison, Bi Hui-fen four years and three months, and Ho Kar-fai five and a half years. The judge said when sentencing, will only consider the law and evidence, will not consider the political factors behind, even if the defendant’s philosophy is how noble, as long as the use of violence, reason will become distorted. The judge also described the defendant’s behavior towards the subject crazy, very insulting and aggressive, etc., and the defendant had prevented the outside world to rescue the subject, adding to the seriousness of the incident.
