China’s current epidemic-hit city of Shijiazhuang in Hebei held a meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress on Friday, appointing Ma Yujun as Shijiazhuang’s vice mayor and deciding on his acting mayor, and passing a decision on accepting Deng Peiran’s request to resign as mayor of Shijiazhuang. Deng Peiran was charged with serious disciplinary violations.
According to a Reuters report today, Shijiazhuang in China’s epidemic-hit province of Hebei has an acting mayor, Ma Yujun, while former mayor Deng Peiran is under investigation. In December last year, Deng Peiran, deputy secretary of the Shijiazhuang Municipal Party Committee and mayor, was under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Hebei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision on suspicion of serious disciplinary violations.
According to official information, Ma Yujun previously served as director and party secretary of the Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Department. He was also a member of the Ninth CPC Hebei Provincial Committee.
According to the Hebei Provincial health Commission, on January 7, 0-24 hours, Hebei Province added 33 new local confirmed cases of new coronavirus pneumonia, of which Shijiazhuang reported 31 cases (one asymptomatic infection turned into a confirmed case) and Xingtai reported two cases (one asymptomatic infection turned into a confirmed case). There were no new deaths and no new suspected cases.
The official report also refers to 39 new cases of local asymptomatic infections in Hebei province from 0-24 hours on January 7, of which 35 cases were reported in Shijiazhuang and 4 cases in Xingtai.
