Beijing’s electricity consumption hits record high, citizens generally complain about lack of heating
On January 7, according to information released by the Beijing Electric Power Company, as of 21:00 on January 6, the electricity load on the Beijing power grid reached 24.51 million kilowatts, setting a new historical record. Many Beijing citizens complained online that the heating temperature is very low this winter, with the room temperature only reaching about 15 degrees, and they need to turn on the air conditioner for heating as a last resort.
The whole China has entered an extremely cold winter due to the strong cold air. The temperature in Beijing reached the lowest since 1966, with the lowest temperature reaching minus 19.6 degrees Celsius on Jan. 7.

Beijing citizens reflected that the collective heating for a fee was even lower than in previous years, and did not even reach the required minimum heating temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. Some Beijing neighborhoods even experienced power, water and heating outages.
A resident of the Xinjie compound in Chaoyang District said on Weibo, “The electricity was cut off for two days in a row during the extremely cold weather, and the heating was also cut off on the night of the 6th at minus 17 degrees Celsius, and the electricity has been cut off for three times into 2021.”
Mr. Bai, a resident of a building in the Xinjie compound, told the Epoch Times, “The floor heating froze and there was no heating for a few days, so the air conditioner could only be turned on indoors. The temperature outside is more than 10 degrees below zero. Maybe it will be fixed in the next few days.”
Mr. Zhang of Liyuan Town, Tongzhou District, Beijing, said, “The heating is getting chilly, and the households are generally not hot enough, and when there is sun during the day, the room temperature is only about 18 degrees. The children and the elderly in the family have already froze and caught a cold. I have called the district heating numerous times, but no one has solved the problem, and those who answer the phone are more cross than the residents. It’s so cold that it’s unbearable, and the temperature drops when the air conditioner is on.”

More Beijing citizens have no choice but to reflect the heating situation online, generally reflecting that “the property does not care, the heating company does not care, the mayor hotline does not care.
The net name “forever girl” said, “Beijing Dexin Jiayuan heating department do not lick the face to call the heating bill, but also please do not say that the report to increase the heating to protect the temperature, the people’s heart is cold! We turn on the air conditioner to solve it ourselves.”
The netizen also showed the “Notice of Heating Fee Payment” issued by Beijing Hongsen Taiye Thermal Technology Development Co. The netizen said that the room temperature of his house was only 15.6 degrees Celsius after heating.
Netizen “Flying Snow” said, “It’s been two weeks! The heating really hasn’t improved at all. Without air conditioning and other heating equipment, the indoor temperature rarely reaches 17 degrees. The minimum requirement for heating in Beijing is 18 degrees, right? So is it possible to refund the heating fee that has been paid?”
There are also residents of Huizhongli district, Doudian, Lehu youth community, Fengtai, Xishan International City and many other districts said that they still feel cold at home wearing down jackets, and that “the cold winter is cold both physically and mentally.”

A resident of Fengtai revealed that two lawyers in the same building and the heating company consultation are not any results. “Please ask who stole our right to temperature in winter, why do we have to pay out of our own pockets to get a third party to measure the temperature for heating evidence? Why is it justified to take our money and not supply heat?”
According to land media reports, the director of the Communist Party’s Beijing Electricity Regulation and Control Center said, “For the first time in nearly 20 years, the maximum load on the Beijing area’s power grid appeared in winter. The heating load accounted for 48.2 percent of the total, a record high.”
Chinese home appliance companies “work for nothing” as yuan soars
Under the impact of the Communist virus epidemic, Western countries such as Europe and the United States imposed embargo measures and increased demand for home appliances, which brought opportunities for Chinese home appliance companies to export. However, due to the rise in the exchange rate of the yuan and the surge in the cost of raw materials, home appliance companies have been “working for nothing”.
Data show that in the fourth quarter of 2020, the Shanghai Aluminum Index rose by 9.3% and the Shanghai Copper Index rose by 13.4%.
The appliance industry generally has a high demand for copper, aluminum, steel, plastic and other bulk raw materials, raw material costs often occupy 70% to 80% of the total cost, Gree Electric’s 2019 annual report disclosed that raw materials accounted for 86.66% of the company’s operating costs that year.
Chinese home appliance companies are mainly export-oriented, and rising costs are just one aspect, while the rising RMB exchange rate is hitting home appliance companies from another aspect.
The yuan rose by more than 6,000 basis points, or 8%, from a low of 7.1765 yuan to the U.S. dollar onshore on May 27, 2020, to the end of 2020.
Foshan, a foreign trade enterprise responsible for home appliances, who did not want to be named, said, “originally received a lot of orders because of the overseas epidemic, these months overtime production, but the exchange rate appreciation so much closer to the delivery period, resulting in a substantial shrinkage of profits, almost a waste of work.”
Mainly engaged in small household appliances, Guangzhou home Dr. electrical foreign trade business leader Xu Li said that the company’s overall foreign trade orders in 2020 has some growth, but in the double squeeze of rising costs and exchange rate appreciation, the company’s backlog of some orders and even a loss of money.
Lisa Ye, sales manager of Zhejiang Ningbo Zhongjie Home Appliances, which produces vacuum cleaners and other products, said the increase in orders is not a good thing, but rather puts the company in a difficult situation because there is no profit or almost no profit, and it will be a loss in a few months.
Ye said that the future situation is unknown, now only dare to take a month of orders, if take a year of orders, later it can not control, the company may go bankrupt.

China Clean Home Appliances has raised the price of its products to offset exchange losses, while large Chinese household power plants such as Gree, Oxy and Zhigao have also raised prices consecutively, once in July and September 2020 and another time in December 2020.
All our profits have disappeared and we are currently losing money, and the worst part is that even if we produce more products, we don’t have enough containers available,” said Cara, sales manager of Guangdong Jiangmen Hongyuda Motor & Electrical Manufacturing Company, which produces kitchen mixers. We can’t get the payment until the customer receives the blender, but the supplier is chasing for the payment, the situation is really miserable.”
