U.S. Sends Fourth B-52 Bomber to Cruise Iran

The Pentagon has again sent B-52H bombers to the Middle East on missions, a Defense Department official told the public, demonstrating once again the U.S. military commitment to the region.

According to Foxnews, the two U.S. bombers flew from Minot Air Base, North Dakota, to the Arabian Gulf and back in 36 hours.

The temporary dispatch was the fourth in the past two months and the first bomber mission of 2021.

The mission helps “demonstrate the U.S. military’s ongoing commitment to regional security and deterrence against aggression,” the Defense Department official told Fox News.

The B-52H bomber, also known as the Stratospheric Fortress, is a long-range heavy bomber that can fly at subsonic speeds.

The last time the two bombers flew over the area before New Year’s Day, they flew along the same direct route, according to the Air Force Times.

On that previous flight, the Iranian side said President Trump “will take full responsibility for any adventurism in the final weeks of his administration.”

The U.S. deployed these cruise missions in response to a series of actions taken by Iran, most notably a rocket attack against the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad on Dec. 20.

Some nine rockets landed in the U.S. Embassy compound.
