In the early morning hours of the 7th EST, a joint session of the U.S. Congress confirmed that Biden won 306 electoral votes and was elected as the next President of the United States. Incumbent President Donald Trump later said through a statement that he promised that the regime transition will be conducted in an orderly manner. According to the Central News Agency, Taiwan’s presidential spokesman Tun-Han Chang pointed out through a press release on the evening of the 7th local time, “On behalf of the government and the people, President Tsai sincerely congratulates Biden on his successful election as the new president of the United States and He Jinli on his election as the new vice president of the United States. President Tsai also looked forward to the future of the U.S. government under Biden’s leadership, the smooth administration of various aspects of national development and prosperity, Taiwan-US relations can continue to deepen.”
According to Tun-Han Chang, “The United States is an important ally of Taiwan and a solid partner in sharing the values of freedom and democracy. In recent years, Taiwan and the U.S. have worked together to smoothly advance their partnership in various areas, including politics, economics, and security, and President Tsai sincerely appreciates the strong support of the U.S. administration under President Trump for enhancing Taiwan-U.S. relations, as well as its assistance to Taiwan in various areas.” He said, “I look forward to continuing to deepen cooperation between Taiwan and the new U.S. administration in the future on the basis of the existing good foundation, to jointly promote the well-being of both peoples, and to jointly maintain peace, stability and prosperous development in the region.”
On the other hand, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced through a statement on the 6th that U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft would visit Taiwan, and Tun-Han Chang later responded with a sincere welcome, saying “this is not only another demonstration of the concrete implementation of the Taiwan Travel Act, but also a symbol of the solid friendship between Taiwan and the United States, and I believe it will be even more beneficial to the continued deepening of the Taiwan-U.S. partnership. I believe it will be of more positive benefit to the continued deepening of the Taiwan-U.S. partnership. The President’s Office sincerely welcomes Craft’s visit to Taiwan.
