On January 7, according to the news released by Beijing Electric Power Company, as of 21:00 on January 6, the electricity load of Beijing’s power grid reached 24.51 million kilowatts, setting a new historical record. Many Beijing citizens complained online that the heating temperature is very low this winter, and the room temperature can only reach about 15 degrees, so they need to turn on the air conditioner as a last resort to get warm.
The whole China has entered an extremely cold winter due to the strong cold air. The temperature in Beijing reached the lowest since 1966, with the lowest temperature reaching minus 19.6 degrees Celsius on Jan. 7.
On January 7, “Beijing’s electricity grid load hit a record high” hit the microblogging hot search, and Beijing citizens complained that they needed to turn on their air conditioners to heat their homes because of insufficient heating.
Beijing residents reported that the collective heating for a fee was even lower than in previous years, and did not even reach the required minimum heating temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. Some Beijing neighborhoods even experienced power, water and heating outages.
A resident of the Xinjie compound in Chaoyang District said on Weibo, “The electricity was cut off for two days in a row during the extremely cold weather, and the heating was also cut off on the night of the 6th at minus 17 degrees Celsius, and the electricity has been cut off three times into 2021.”
Mr. Bai, a resident of a building in the Xinjie compound, told the Epoch Times, “The floor heating froze and there was no heating for a few days, so the air conditioner could only be turned on indoors. The temperature outside is more than 10 degrees below zero. Maybe it will be fixed in the next few days.”
Mr. Zhang of Liyuan Town, Tongzhou District, Beijing, said, “The heating is getting chilly, and the households are generally not hot enough, and when there is sun during the day, the room temperature is only about 18 degrees. The children and the elderly in the family have already froze and caught a cold. I have called the district heating numerous times, but no one has solved the problem, and those who answer the phone are more cross than the residents. It’s so cold that it’s unbearable, and the temperature drops when the air conditioner is on.”

More Beijing citizens have no choice but to reflect the heating situation online, generally reflecting that “the property does not care, the heating company does not care, the mayor hotline does not care.
The net name “forever girl” said, “Beijing Dexin Jiayuan heating department do not lick the face to call the heating bill, but also please do not say that the report to increase the heating to protect the temperature, the people’s heart is cold! We turn on the air conditioner to solve it ourselves.” The netizen also showed the “Notice of Heating Fee Payment” issued by Beijing Hongsen Taiye Thermal Technology Development Co. The netizen said that the room temperature of his house was only 15.6 degrees Celsius after heating.
Netizen “Flying Snow” said, “It’s been two weeks! The heating really hasn’t improved at all. Without air conditioning and other heating equipment, the indoor temperature rarely reaches 17 degrees. The minimum requirement for heating in Beijing is 18 degrees, right? So is it possible to refund the heating fee that has been paid?”
There are also residents of Huizhongli district, Doudian, Lehu youth community, Fengtai, Xishan International City and many other districts said that they still feel cold at home wearing down jackets, and that “the cold winter is cold both physically and mentally.”

A resident of Fengtai revealed that two lawyers in the same building and the heating company consultation are not any results. “Please ask who stole our rights to temperature in winter, why do we have to pay out of our own pockets to find a third party to measure the temperature for heating evidence? The company’s money is not heating and there is a reason?”
The heating temperature in the new neighborhoods in Beijing is equally low. Residents living in Xinjing Home in Dongcheng District said, “On such a cold day, the district heating is 17 degrees, I dare not think about the night, this is a new neighborhood.”
According to land media reports, the director of the State Grid Beijing Electricity Regulation and Control Center said, “For the first time in nearly 20 years, the maximum load on the power grid in the Beijing area appeared in winter. The heating load accounted for 48.2 percent of the total, a record high.”
