At least 102 members of Congress have pledged to challenge electoral votes at certification meetings

On Jan. 6, the U.S. Congress will start the process of certifying the election results. According to English statistics, so far, at least 89 federal House members and 13 senators have publicly pledged that they will challenge the electoral votes of disputed states.

There are 435 members of Congress in the House of Representatives and 100 in the Senate.

Congress is meeting in Washington to count the Electoral College votes and determine who is elected president.

Objections to the electoral votes must be made in writing by at least one member of the House of Representatives and one member of the Senate. After the dissent is filed, Congress will exit the joint session and hold separate two-hour debates, followed by a vote. A majority vote in both chambers will invalidate the disputed electoral votes if they are all dissenting.

The presidential candidate must receive 270 electoral votes to win. If neither candidate ultimately does, a power-shift election is triggered. Each state in the House of Representatives has one vote to elect the next president. The Senate will elect the vice president.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats say Biden has won the election. But President Trump and his supporters argue that the election is not over.

Trump said this week that he will continue to challenge the election even though Biden has been certified by Congress.

Trump vowed at Monday’s Georgia electioneering rally that he would still “fight like hell. He said, “It was an organized election (fraud), but we’re still fighting it. You’ll see what happens in the next few weeks,” he said.

Here is the list of Republican lawmakers who will challenge the electoral votes in a joint session.
