On Tuesday (Jan. 5), the state senator from the swing state of Pennsylvania sent a letter to Congress saying he was asking for a postponement of a joint session of Congress because of the election fraud issue.
Trump tweeted that this is big news for Pennsylvania; Trump team lawyer Giuliani also tweeted that this is big news from the real leader.
According to the letter from Pennsylvania lawmakers attached to Trump’s tweet, it was addressed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Mackenzie. The full text of the letter is translated below.
As members of the Pennsylvania State Senate, we believe in the integrity of the election process. After speaking with colleagues, most members of the State Senate are troubled by the many inconsistencies that have occurred in our state during the 2020 election.
The balance of power given to the state legislature by the U.S. Constitution and Pennsylvania state law has been taken away because of numerous illegal violations taken by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar and the state Supreme Court, which should have been the state legislature setting the time, place and manner of holding the election.
Act 77 of 2019, which was signed into law, has the following clear provisions.
-All mail-in ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on the night of the election.
-Polling place officials must certify the voter’s signature.
-The County Board of Elections may begin pre-screening absentee ballots and mail-in ballots after 8:00 a.m. on election day.
-Candidates and party-selected scrutineers are allowed to observe the election and mail-in ballot process.
-No ballot box alterations or “curing” of ballots
But seven weeks before the 2020 election, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overstepped its authority by ruling that
-Mailed ballots can be received and counted after three days.
-Ballots without postmarks will be counted.
-Signatures on mail-in ballots do not need to be verified.
Secretary of State Bokvar also usurped legislative power by.
-Allowing additional unsecured ballot boxes in key Democratic-controlled areas.
Encouraging some, but not all, counties to notify party and candidate representatives of ineligible defects in mail-in ballots the day before an election and allowing them to “correct” those defects.
In addition to these inconsistencies, the city’s certified Republican supervisors were prohibited from overseeing the election. After a court order allowed these poll watchers access to observe, they were “fenced in” away from polling places so that they could not see the voting activity.
Requests by state legislators for an independent investigation were ignored by local authorities.
Because of these inconsistent and questionable activities, we believe that the Pennsylvania election results should not have been the ones certified by the Secretary of State.
Given that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear Trump vs. Boockvar in the coming days, we ask Congress for more time. We ask that you (Senate Majority Leader McConnell and House Minority Leader McKenzie) delay the certification of the Electoral College in order to give us permission for due process and to seek electoral integrity.
The letter was signed by Pennsylvania State Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward, Chairman Jake Corman, 30th District State Senator Judy Ward and 28th District State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill.
