GOP Sen. Josh Hawley tweeted that a group of Antifa members threatened his wife and young daughter at his Washington, D.C., home on Monday night (Jan. 4). Hawley said he and his family “will not be intimidated.
“Tonight (Jan. 4), while I was in Missouri, Antifa scumbags came to our home in the District of Columbia and threatened my wife and newborn daughter, who were unable to travel. They screamed threats, destroyed everything and tried to break down our (home) door.” Hawley wrote on Twitter late Monday.
He said, “Let me clarify one thing: My family and I will not be intimidated by left-wing violence.”
Hawley is the first senator to publicly announce his intention to challenge the results of some state Electoral College votes in a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6.
On Tuesday morning, Hawley tweeted that the @washingtonpost had published outright lies this morning from the Antifa group that calls itself the “Sweet Angel.
“You (Antifa) scream over loudspeakers, yell at my wife when she asks you to leave, vandalize properties, break down our doors, and terrorize neighbors all at the same time,” he wrote. He wrote.
Hawley went on to accuse Antifa members of behavior: “And (you) don’t have the guts to do (such things) in the daytime, only under cover of darkness so you can hide. You guys suck, and we’re not intimidated.”
The group called ShutDownDC, which is affiliated with the far-left Antifa, tweeted a video late Monday showing a group of people walking up to Sen. Hawley’s residence in the northern Virginia suburbs bordering Washington, D.C., and holding a march for about an hour. The group and held candles while shouting anti-Hawley slogans through megaphones.
The group wrote in a Twitter post, “We are in Josh Hawley’s (neighborhood), a vigil for democracy.”
The group later posted a statement on its website confirming their presence at Hawley’s home because Hawley was scheduled to challenge the Electoral College vote in a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6.
The group called the visit to Hawley’s home “an hour-long warning” to “drop his (Hawley’s) baseless fight against the 2020 presidential election results.
Hawley will be joined by 12 Republican senators and 140 Republican House members in a joint session of Congress.
Hawley also refuted Antifa’s post in another tweet Monday night, writing, “Right now, ‘vigil’ means screaming through loudspeakers, destroying property, slamming doors of houses, and terrorizing innocent people and children.”
On Tuesday, Republican Sen. Ron Johnson tweeted, “People may not agree with Senator Hawley (@HawleyMO), but harassing (his) wife and children is despicable.”
“Apparently, this is what the radical left refers to as ‘social justice.’ I pray that America rejects it.” Johnson wrote.
Justice Department outside counsel John R Lott Jr. tweeted Tuesday, “Threats of violence apparently made the Supreme Court drop (election fraud lawsuits) and shy away from hearing election challenges. Now, it’s threats of violence against Senators who want to review election fraud. Where are the police in Washington, D.C.? Would anyone argue that these threats are not credible? Do Democrats want to know why Republicans want to own guns?”
