Portuguese health worker dies 48 hours after vaccination

Sonia Acevedo, a 41-year-old Portuguese health worker, died on New Year’s Day two days after receiving a vaccine jointly developed by Pfizer and BioNTech of Germany late last year, the Daily Mail reported.

Ms Acevedo, who had two children working in paediatrics at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Porto, died 48 hours after the vaccine was reported to have had no adverse effects, reports said.

Her father told Portuguese media: “She is in good health and has no disease. She was vaccinated but showed no symptoms. I have no idea what happened. I just need an answer. I want to know what caused my daughter’s death.”

Acevedo lived with his family but died at his partner’s home, 30 minutes away by car. Her father said he had received a phone call informing him that his daughter had died at around 11am on January 1. A few hours earlier, the family had dinner together on New Year’s Eve. “My daughter went out, but I never saw her back alive.”

Acevedo’s employer confirmed that she had received the vaccine on December 30 and that there had been no “adverse reactions” within hours of her vaccination. A total of 538 people were vaccinated in the hospital where she worked.

When it was known that Acevedo had been vaccinated, he swapped his Facebook profile picture for a picture of himself wearing a mask and wrote: ‘Vaccinated.’ Authorities expect a post-mortem examination soon to clarify the cause of death.
