Fang Fang says China has no future if the far-left virus infects the whole society.

Chinese writer Fang Fang, who wrote “Wuhan Diary” during the New Crown Pneumonia epidemic, is under siege by Chinese Communist Party officials. Fang Fang said on his Weibo account last Thursday (31) that “the extreme left is the scourge of China” and that if this “virus” is allowed to infect the whole society, China has no future.

Fang’s statement on his Weibo account resonated with many Chinese netizens, but was also attacked by many pro-communist netizens. The posting was made late at 11:36 p.m. on New Year’s Eve 2020. In the post, Fang Fang said, “I don’t want to talk too much about this year of hardships. I have recorded two paragraphs as a note and summary, or a record of the year’s highlights.

The first paragraph of Fang’s post is a suicide note written by Hubei Film Studio director Chang Kai in February 2020 after he was infected with the New Coronavirus. Afterwards, the suicide note was widely circulated on the Internet in China and became known as “Chang Kai’s desperate letter”, causing huge repercussions.

In the second paragraph, Fang quotes from the last article of his Wuhan Diary, which reads, “I want to say over and over again that the extreme left is the scourge of the country and the people in China! They are the greatest resistance to reform and opening up! If we let this ultra-leftist force run amok and let this virus infect the whole society, reform will surely fail and China will have no future”.

At the end of the article, Fang said that history would remember “the Changkai of 2020” and “the hardships and perseverance we had”, and that “I am still looking forward to 2021”.

Fang’s posting drew both positive and negative responses, with many supporting Fang and some opponents criticizing her vociferously for “China’s excellent performance in fighting the epidemic,” with netizens on both sides of the issue sporadically trading barbs.

Fang Fang, 65, whose real name is Wang Fang, wrote “Wuhan Diary” from January to March 2020, detailing the stories and tragedies during the city’s closure, which garnered the support of many Chinese netizens.
